Optomap Retinal Scan

Optomap Retinal Scan

An Optomap exam provides:

  • A computerized ultra wide field digital scan of the retina
  • An in depth view of the retina (where disease can start)
  • The ability for you to view last year’s scan and this year’s scan side by side for comparison and analysis with your doctor during your exam
  • A permanent record for your medical file, giving your doctor a chance to track and diagnose potential eye diseases/conditions
  • Important information for you and your doctor to help protect your vision

Insurance typically does not cover any advanced screening technology beyond the general eye exam. Currently, some of the VSP plans will cover a retinal screening. Please check your plan coverage or ask us if it is covered. We will perform the Optomap Retinal Exam for a fee of $39.00 and the doctors will go over with you the details of what we see in the images.

To Our Patients,
In an effort to further protect our patients and staff, we are following the guidelines from the CDC and the American Optometric Association by continuing to keep our office temporarily closed until May 4th, 2020.
If you are experiencing an ocular emergency that requires immediate attention, please go to your nearest urgent care center. Otherwise, for non-immediate ocular issues, please call or email us to schedule a telephone consult. If the doctor determines that the issue cannot be resolved without seeing you in person, we will arrange an appointment so that no other patients are in the office at the same time.
If you or your child are out of contacts, or have broken or lost your glasses, and cannot get to our office, we can almost always fabricate and ship a replacement set, if we have your measurements on file.
If you absolutely need to pick up your eyewear, we can dispense your glasses or contact lenses curbside on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 10am – 2pm. Please call our office before you come so that one of our staff can meet you at your car to dispense your eyewear. Our opticians will be able to make adjustments on your spectacles after the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation during this difficult time, as we all work together to keep our community healthy and safe.

Warm Regards,
Palo Alto Eyes Optometry
